Special Ability:  Paul starts the game with 5 tree tokens. At the start of his turn, Paul may plant a tree on his space, as long as there is no tree on it or any space adjacent to it. A tree may be felled by using cards, and Paul collects the wood token (reverse side). Trees otherwise have no effect.

Comments:

  • The idea is that Paul spends the early part of the game planting trees and avoiding combat while Babe bothers their enemies.
  • Babe is supposed to be able to “seal off” an entrance so Paul can plant trees down that trail.
  • Paul’s game really revolves around getting some A TREE FALLS IN THE FOREST, LEGENDARY WOODSMAN and REPLENISH FOREST cards early so he can fell 2-3 trees before he has to engage his enemies.
  • Hopefully, the 4th and especially 5th trees will be hard to plant and fell but once that 5th one falls, watch out for Paul!
  • FEARSOME is a really good card.
  • I’ve tested this out and refined it over time.  It’s a deck with a learning curve.  Paul has to get into enemy territory and plant trees, then he has to hang around there to chop them.  In the meantime, he can take a lot of damage and he might really struggle in 2v2.  But, I’ve seen him get to A7s fairly early in the game, and with tree-chopping cards to spare.  He won that game against Medusa, and he also went first or he probably would have lost.  It came down to the wire and that’s a good sign.
