Colt Express is a newer (2014) game, a really fun card programming game with an interesting mix of strategy and randomness-by-design. You can play it on boardgamearena.com but the tabletop version comes complete with a nice (cardboard) train as the “game board”. Colt Express accomplishes it’s theme very well and has high do-something-ability: You’re robbing a train in the Old West, and things don’t always go as planned. It tells a little story as it goes along featuring some fun and colorful characters doing fun things like running across the train’s rooftops, looting passengers, and battling other bandits with fisticuffs. It has a strong strategic element but it mixes in a good bit of randomness-by-design, plus good old fashioned luck, making it accessible to new players or less serious gamers. The setup and the game play are both fairly quick once you know what you’re doing, so you can use it as a warmup, but it’s enough fun to play multiple times. It only really works with 4, 5 or 6 people, with 5 being the sweet spot.
