Master Obi-Wan Kenobi – Geektopia Games

Master Obi-Wan Kenobi

Minor(s): Anakin Skywalker Jedi Knight

It took us a little while longer to come out with this one but this is one of our favorite ones to play since it involves 2 of our favorite characters.

What does this deck do:  A tank major who damages crowds along with a damage-dealing minor.

Obi-Wan – 7 Talent Cards

A6, if Anakin is adjacent, he recovers 2 damage.

2x MASTER JEDI DEFENSE

1x BOLD MOVE
Move Obi-Wan to any space on the board.  All adjacent enemies take 4 damage.

1x THE NEGOTIATOR
Move Obi-Wan and Anakin up to 6 spaces each. No one may attack Obi-Wan until his next turn.

Anakin – 5 Talent Cards

2x FOCUS YOUR ANGER
A8, Anakin takes 2 damage.

2x PARRY AND RIPOSTE
D3, attacker takes 2 damage.

1x TOGETHER THIS TIME
Move Anakin adjacent to Obi-Wan. Draw a card.

Theme: 2 individually strong Jedi that form a strong team
Path to Victory: Wears you down with big attacks, CONTROL YOUR ANGER + DO WHAT I MUST
Strengths: High staying power, high attack power, solid movement and direct damage, 2 strong characters
Weaknesses: Anakin can get himself killed quickly and if he goes down before doing significant damage, Obi-Wan struggles to do enough damage on his own
Strategy: Anakin unloads early, Obi-Wan finishes up
Test Level: High
Tier: 1

Inspiration: It’s called Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, opening sequence

Playing Obi & Ani: A very strong deck with 2 dangerous sluggos.  Anakin is one of the game’s best minors and Obi-Wan, even with only 7 talent cards, is no slouch as a major. With a decent draw, they both have a balanced game and Obi-Wan has a potential game-changer in BOLD MOVE. This deck has no real weaknesses but like any team deck, you have to keep both characters alive long enough to get something out of each of them, and Anakin makes it hard when his power combat cards result in him taking damage.

Playing against Obi & Ani: Focusing on Anakin is your best bet. Obi-Wan isn’t a dangerous melee attacker so you can run by him to swat Anakin or their allies, who will be your likely first targets in the game, but don’t get caught having to face both of them. Be aware of BOLD MOVE and consider spreading your team apart.

Do what I must heals Anakin? LOL! This really doesn’t make sense. I get that gameplay should trump realism and I get that you want these characters to work together, but still, LOL! Maybe some other card name, LOL!

Yes it’s about game play. The deck works well and the two characters work well together. The card name is a quote from the movie, that’s good enough for us.

Actually Cagey agrees with you that we should find a better card name, though nobody has any ideas and I don’t know that we’ll ever get around to it. I’d rather go with a poor-fitting quote than “Soresu Form” or something but I’m open to other ideas.

Feel free to add 1 HP to each of them for your set, but it will make the deck really, really strong. They are already Tier 1B and I don’t think they should be 1A. With another HP each, I think they’d be at the very top.

May I also suggest that “I will do what I must” could be switched to, “Don’t lose it again” referencing in Attack of the Clones, when Obi-Wan gives Anakin his lightsaber back after chasing Zam?

I feel like “I will do what I must” is such clearly a reference to Obi and Anakin’s battle in ROTS that it doesn’t make sense that the card would heal Anakin.
