Aayla Secura – Geektopia Games

Aayla Secura

Minor(s): 2 Clone Troopers

Thanks to Mahmud Asrar for the art!

A long time favorite, we started playing Rich Pizor’s version long before Star Wars Minis even launched by modding Padme into a blue Twi’lek. Since then we’ve tweaked the deck many times but stayed close to the original design we liked so much.

What does this deck do:  A sneaky operative who defends well.  Moves self and opponents around.  Tricks you into defending when you don’t need to.

Aayla Secure
by Roman F and Geektopia. Based off ideas by Rich Pizor, ILLUSORY STRIKE was Sultan’s idea.

Weak Ranged Minor Deck

Aayla – 12 Talent Cards

3x ATHLETIC PROWESS
A6.  For each point of damage the attack does, Aayla may move 1 space.

3x ILLUSORY STRIKE
A0. Playing this card does not count as an action.

2x CLEVER PLAN
Divide up to 6 spaces of movement between any players on the board.

2x SELF CONFIDENCE
A4/D4.  Draw a card.

1x UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE
D*.  Choose a character to exchange places with Aayla.  That character is now the target of the attack and may defend the attack.

1x MEMORIES RETURN
Reshuffle your discard pile into your draw pile. Draw 3 cards.

Theme: Hit-and-run and reshuffle
Path to Victory: CLEVER PLAN + ILLUSORY STRIKE + ATHLETIC PROWESS, follow an offensive (or defensive) outburst with MEMORIES RETURN
Strengths: Can manipulate placement on the board, good hit-and-run ability, solid offense and defense
Weaknesses: Not great at either offense or defense, weak minors
Strategy: Manipulate the board, hit-and-run
Test Level: Medium, ILLUSORY STRIKE was a recent addition and we have been re-balancing
Tier: 2

Inspiration: Rich Pizor’s original deck was really fun.  There’s also something about the actress who played her that we like, not sure what it is.

Playing Aayla:  Aayla has a great hit-and-run game and the ability to control the board. Enemies are unlikely to want to attack her due to UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE, the threat of which is just as important as actually playing it, so save it for the right moment. CLEVER PLAN can be a game-changing card in 2v2. You want to use her good cards, then play MEMORIES RETURN and then play them again.

Playing against Aayla: Beware UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE and the movement powers of CLEVER PLAN, both of which can isolate an otherwise safe character.  If you risk that she doesn’t have UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE in her hand, her defense isn’t really that strong and you can take her down quickly. However, you might be better off going after her ally first, since once she’s on her own, UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE is useless and her killing power is fairly low. If you don’t go after her, beware CLEVER PLAN, your characters are never safe.

Sultan has a very good one that was selected for the 10-Year Anniversary Set.

Mike Maloney’s finished 2nd place, tied with ours.
