LOTRED – Print and Play

Back to LOTRED

If you’re printing or just interested in a LOTRED set, let us know in the comments!

At this point (2020) there are 32 LOTRED decks and all have something to offer.  Printing out 32 decks is more than most people want to spend, or even play.  So I suggest taking a look around and deciding what you want before you commit to printing out a set.  There was an original set of 12 decks, but I think some of the decks that came after that set are more fun.

  1. Download all the decks and battle cards you want to print to a directory on your computer.
  2. You’re going to be printing front and back:
    1. I almost always start with a test page on plain paper.  I type out “Text” and print it out, then I draw a little up arrow in the top corner in what I think is the correct side of the page to print the reverse side, as well as the right direction of the arrow.  So I take a shot and then print “Test” on the other side, and that lets me know the direction of the reverse printing
    2. Each deck has 3 pages + one page of backs.  You want the best ink on the card fronts, so they can be read.  If the backs end up a little faded, or a little drained of a certain color, it’s generally no big deal (I used to say print the backs first but over time I’ve changed my mind).
    3. Print out the 3 pages of the fronts of the cards.
    4. Then set them up for reverse printing, and print out the backs, 3 copies.  You might want to try one page first, before you try printing the other 2.
  3. Print out the 6 pages (or fewer, if you don’t want them all) of battle cards.  Each page holds 2 battle cards.

Lord of the Rings Epic Duels Armies Expansion

Six more decks!  Faramir and Sharku were going to be part of the original set but with the project taking a long time, they were trimmed off to get to completion.

For those who know me, I can be a stickler about following the “rules” of Epic Duels design, but this set represents some heavy breaking of rules, and to what I think are great results.  The Uruk-Hai army, mostly developed by Robert Moore, has dual majors along with 2 minors, but it works.  So does the Nazgul deck, featuring 3 indistinguishable major/minors.

LOTR Legends Expansion (2020)

Six more decks, featuring some of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth!  These were put together in Deck Designer so they are a little easier to print, and include cut-out figures, but they don’t have the Middle Earth style that Robert Moore provided.

Elrond & Elves

Isildur & Elendil

Treebeard & Ents

The Balrog of Morgoth

Sauron the Dark Lord & Mordor Orcs

Eye of Sauron & Mouth of Sauron

Decks from The Hobbit trilogy

The final (for now) set of LOTRED decks is born of The Hobbit trilogy.  I’ll go ahead and tell you, they weren’t my favorite films, but they are full of colorful characters and epic, one-on-one battles.  All of the characters included are worthy of a deck, and I think all 8 decks are interesting and fun.

These were put together in Deck Designer so they are a little easier to print, and include cut-out figures.

MAPS

Last but not least are the LOTRED maps.

The first 4 maps were part of the original project.  These first 2, by Robert Moore, come as .JPGs, and each in 2 parts:

Amon Hen1
Amon Hen2

Shelob’s Lair1
Shelob’s Lair2

These next 2, created by Sultan, come as .PDFs, and are also in 2 parts:

Balin’s Tomb1
Balin’s Tomb2

Pellenor Field1
Pellenor Field2

These next 2 maps were technically part of the Armies Expansion, but Weathertop is one of my all-time favorite Epic Duels maps of any genre.  Also created by Robert Moore in .JPG form.

You’ll notice these are single files.  My memory is a bit foggy on this, but I think you will need to use a .JPG editor to split them into 2 for printing.

The Black Gate

Weathertop

You want more?  I haven’t personally played these, but Robert took it upon himself to create 2 more maps for your gaming pleasure.  He actually had an Orthanc map once as well, but I can’t find that one and it had some flaws as I remember.

The Deepening Wall

Mines of Moria

If you print any of the materials, please let us know how it goes for you!

    Hello !
There are small problems with Eomer and Frodo/Sam’s links. Frodo’s first and fourth link all link to his major Talent Cards, and the card backs are unavailable. As for Eomer, it’s his second and third links which both lead to his Major basic cards. Minors’ basic cards are unavailable as well…
That said, everything else is tip-top, and I can’t thank you all enough for making all this nice material so easy to access !
    Excellent archive work.

I am interested in printing off this game but sadly the link for Bilbo & Dwarves from the Hobbit isn’t working. Just thought I would put this here but the rest of the stuff looks fine

Hello! I was super excited to come across this site and LOTRED content. My brother and I have been playing SWED since we were kiddos, and still play to this day. I am going to try to print a *core box* of this game consisting of the first 12 Heroes. I noticed that those files are JPG while later expansions you have are PDF, and wanted to see if anyone made the PDF versions for the older files?
If not, do you have a way of sharing better quality or original files for those? Printing quality on the JPG is not very good and I think there is a lot of compression on the JPG download. I tested a PDF, and those are printing great!
I will definitely share my results if I can get stuff to come out good! My hope is to have a sweet surprise to bring to game night. 😉
Thank you! and thanks to all who have contributed! This content is absolutely amazing!
