Luke Rebel Commando – Geektopia Games

Luke Rebel Commando

Minor(s): 2 Rebel Commandos

We’ve only break this out once in a great while, with so many other Luke decks around, so it’s sort of in the “fun” beer & pretzel category and hasn’t been all that thoroughly played by us.

What does this deck do:  Chokes, takes on multiple enemies, and blows its guys up.

January 2017 Update:  DON’T UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER is now A10 to make it more JUSTICE-y.  I think it’s still a Tier 2C deck but if it plays more Tier 2B, that’s fine too.

Luke – 12 Talent Cards

3x LIGHTSABER SLASH
A6. Choose a character Luke can attack besides the defending character
to take 2 damage.

1x DON’T UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER
A4*. *If Luke does damage with this card, the attack value is 10.

2x LIGHTSABER DEFLECT
D4*. *If the attacking character uses a blaster, that character takes 2 damage.

2x CHOKE
Choose any minor character. That character takes 5 damage.

2x LEVITATION
Choose an empty space that Luke could attack if he had a blaster. Then choose any allied character Luke could otherwise attack with a blaster, or choose Luke. Move the chosen character to the chosen space.

1x EXPLOSIVE CHARGE
Choose a Rebel Commando. All characters adjacent to the Rebel Commando
take 4 damage. Then the Rebel Commando is destroyed.

1x JEDI MIND TRICK
Choose a character Luke can attack. That character may not move or
attack until Luke’s next turn. Draw a card.

Theme: A touch of the dark side
Path to Victory: LEVITATION + EXPLOSIVE CHARGE + CHOKE or LIGHTSABER SLASH + DON’T UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER
Strengths: High direct damage, kills minors, decent all-around game
Weaknesses: Limited movement, mediocre defense
Strategy: Throw a commando bomb at them, Luke can finish up with direct damage.
Test Level: Low
Tier: 2

Inspiration:  Deri, aka docmogs or fingersandteeth, won a Star Wars Minis championship at GenCon running a squad that used the Luke Rebel Commando piece and its “Levitation” ability to great effect. He called the squad “Lobbin’ Luke“. It’s a nice sculpt and I was inspired to create a deck around it, one that represented most of what we see of Luke in Episode VI whereas I see the original Luke deck as who he is at the end of Episode VI.

Notes: We haven’t really seen this deck much but he looks fun and fairly powerful. Definitely a blaster-slayer, not that that is saying much.

My friends and I vassal’d this, we like that he has hints of darkside power with choke.

We don’t have many suggestions but the wording on ‘levitation’ is a bit clunky.

I think it would be cool if Luke could use ‘Choke’ on Majors as well but the attack power would definately have to be toned down if that were true.

I’ve never liked the whole Zam ‘change the attack power dependant on the situation thing.’ This is a more beefed up one which is great but I do like the ‘take double any damage from this card mechanic. Though, now that I think about it, they would work the same way I suppose.

Thanks for the feedback anjetto. I rarely see this deck but I do think it’s pretty fun. I understand what you mean about LEVITATION but I don’t know of a cleaner way to word it. I think it gets the idea across.
